During the 13th and the 14th century, new towns were created in the south west of France. From 1220 to 1370, 400 Bastides were built, for example Revel in 1342.

It is not possible to talk about Revel without the Canal du Midi and Saint Ferréol, because the common destiny of both was born when Pierre Paul Riquet decided to ake the Montagne Noire's water to create the Canal du Midi.
The Canal du Midi, a real technological achievement, is listed as world heritage by the UNESCO. It is the link between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
Moreover, Revel is located on the Santiago de Compostella Camino, also listed on the UNESCO world heritage list.
Revel, the capital of decorative and fine furniture making since the 19th century, is the home of many master craftsmen and cabinet makers and one can visit their workshop and museums to see examples of their craft.
